We’re at the end of my very first business week. Hopefully it has been as enjoyable for you as it has been for me.
Previously we have gone through chapters 2 through 10 in the book Think And Grow Rich, by Napoleon Hill. Today we’ll go through the rest very briefly, as I want you to read the book for yourself. It is worth your time to read this book. I think it’s essential if you want to reach financial freedom.
You could reach the same conclusions as described in this book by yourself, of course, but why not speed things up by reading? It doesn’t take that long, and the benefits are immense, even if your goal is not to become the richest person on the planet.

We’re on the last stretch. Let’s get to it.
Think And Grow Rich, By Napoleon Hill – Part 4 (END)
The rest of the chapters in the book have something to do with thinking, and what’s going on in your mind. I’ve noticed that understanding human psychology goes a long way in understanding yourself. If you understand yourself, and human psychology, it’s easier to put yourself in the other person’s shoes, and that has a multitude of beneficial factors to it.
The Mystery Of Sex Transmutation
“the meaning of the word “transmute” is, in simple language, “the changing, or transferring of one element, or form of energy, into another.”
The emotion of sex brings into being a state of mind.
Because of ignorance on the subject, this state of mind is generally associated with the physical, and because of improper influences, to which most people have been subjected, in acquiring knowledge of sex, things essentially physical have highly biased the mind.
The emotion of sex has back of it the possibility of three constructive potentialities, they are:-
- The perpetuation of mankind.
- The maintenance of health, (as a therapeutic agency, it has no equal).
- The transformation of mediocrity into genius through transmutation.
Sex transmutation is simple and easily explained. It means the switching of the mind from thoughts of physical expression, to thoughts of some other nature.
Sex desire is the most powerful on human desires. When driven by this desire, men develop keenness of imagination, courage, will-power, persistence, and creative ability unknown to them at other times. So strong and impelling is the desire for sexual contact that men freely run the risk of life and reputation to indulge it. When harnessed, and redirected along other lines, this motivating force maintains all of its attributes of keenness of imagination, courage, etc., which may be used as powerful creative force in literature, art, or in any other profession or calling, including, of course, the accumulation of riches.”
All men (as I can’t speak for the women) at least can understand what Hill is saying here. If you could transmute your desire to have sex to do other things, you would find it extremely easy to aim for highest possible positions.
In other words, he is trying to say you should control your urges to have sex, and try to redirect those feelings towards your goal to becoming rich/famous/whatever else it may be. This is how I understood it.
You should read this chapter (chapter 11 in the book) for yourself to get a better picture. It’s quite a long one.
The Subconscious Mind
This chapter deals with your subconscious mind, impulses and emotions connected to it.
“THE SUBCONSCIOUS MIND consists of a field of consciousness, in which every impulse of thought that reaches the objective mind through any of the five senses, is classified and recorded, and from which thoughts may be recalled or withdrawn as letters may be taken from a filing cabinet.
it receives, and files, sense impressions or thoughts, regardless of their nature. You may VOLUNTARILY plan in your subconscious mind any plan, thought, or purpose which you desire to translate into its physical or monetary equivalent. The subconscious acts first on the dominating desires which have been mixed with emotional feeling, such as faith.”
This chapter goes more in-depth on the idea that you can implant any thought, plan or idea into your subconsciousness, and over time, if done as described in the book, it will yield results beyond what you thought you were capable of doing.
The Sixth Sense
THE DOOR TO THE TEMPLE OF WISDOM
This chapter is about something you can’t affect yourself, as it is based on something you have a “hunch” for. You develop this “hunch” through other practices described in the book.
“THE “thirteenth” principle is known as the SIXTH SENSE, through which Infinite Intelligence may, and will communicate voluntarily, without any effort from, or demands by, the individual.
This principle is the apex of philosophy. It can be assimilated, understood, and applied ONLY by first mastering the other twelve principles.
The SIXTH SENSE is that portion of the subconscious mind which has been referred to as the Creative Imagination. It has also been referred to as the “receiving set” through which ideas, plans, and thoughts flash into the mind. The “flashes” are sometimes called “hunches” or “inspirations.””
As you first have to master the other twelve principles, and even I as I’m writing this, and having read the book, can’t do that, there’s no point in delving further into this chapter for now. Master the other twelve principles and this one will follow.
How To Outwit The Six Ghosts Of Fear
This is the final chapter of the book, and it ties everything together. So far you have been reading about what must be done before you reach success. In this chapter you will learn what you must overcome before real success can be achieved (this doesn’t mean you shouldn’t start working on your goals already!!).
Most of us are afraid of something. Most of the time that fear is irrational and we can’t really control it. But that isn’t true, you can learn to control any fear you might have. It may not be easy, but if the things that are worth going after were easy to acquire, why would be do it in the first place?
“BEFORE you can put any portion of this philosophy into successful use, your mind must be prepared to receive it. The preparation is not difficult. It begins with study, analysis, and understanding of three enemies which you shall have to clear out. These are INDECISION, DOUBT, and FEAR!
The Sixth Sense will never function while these three negatives, or any of them remain in your mind. The members of this unholy trio are closely related; where one is found, the other two are close at hand.
INDECISION is the seedling of FEAR! Remember this, as you read. Indecision crystalizes into DOUBT, the two blend and become FEAR! The “blending” process often is slow. This is one reason why these three enemies are so dangerous. They germinate and grow without their presence being observed.”
THE SIX BASIC FEARS
“There are six basic fears, with some combination of which every human suffers at one tune or another. Most people are fortunate if they do not suffer from the entire six. Named in the order of their most common appearance, they are:-
- The fear of POVERTY *
- The fear of CRITICISM *
- The fear of ILL HEALTH *
- The fear of LOSS OF LOVE OF SOMEONE
- The fear of OLD AGE
- The fear of DEATH
*at the bottom of most of one’s worries
All the other fears are of minor importance, they can be grouped under these six heading.
Fears are nothing more than states of mind. One’s state of mind is subject to control and direction. Physicians, as everyone knows, are less subject to attack by disease other than ordinary laymen, for the reason that physicians DO NOT FEAR DISEASE. Physicians, without fear or hesitation, have been known to physically contact hundreds of people, daily, who were suffering from such contagious diseases as small-pox, without becoming infected. Their immunity against the disease consisted, largely, if not solely, in their absolute lack of FEAR.”
Just knowing that you can control these fears should be enough to get you thinking. There are many ways to go about “fixing” this problem in you, but first you need to acknowledge that it is indeed a problem that needs to be fixed.
Fears are irrational, and you’re a rational human being. You don’t have to be afraid of something you can’t control. Focus on something you can control instead.
Most of the rest of the chapter is used to describe exactly how to determine what fears you might have. Interesting read, but not really worth going into here. I did, however, want to include one more useful section.
How TO PROTECT YOURSELF AGAINST THE NEGATIVE INFLUENCES
“To protect yourself against negative influences, whether your own making, or the result of the activities of negative people around you, recognize that you have a WILL-POWER, and put it into constant use, until it builds a wall of immunity against negative influences in your own mind.
Recognize the fact that you, and every other human being, are, by nature, lazy, indifferent, and susceptible to all suggestions which harmonize with your weaknesses.
Recognize that you are, by nature, susceptible to all the six basic fears, and set up habits for the purpose of counteracting all these fears.
Recognize that negative influences often work on you through your subconscious mind, therefore they are difficult to detect, and keep your mind closed against all people who depress or discourage you in any way.
Clean out your medicine chest, throw away all pill bottles, and stop pandering to colds, aches, pains and imaginary illness.
Deliberately seek the company of people who influence you to THINK AND ACT FOR YOURSELF.
Do not EXPECT troubles as they have a tendency to not disappoint.
Without doubt, the most common weakness of all human beings is the habit of leaving their minds open to negative influence of other people. This weakness is all the more damaging, because most people do not recognize that they are cursed by it, and many who acknowledge it, neglect or refuse to correct the evil until it becomes and uncontrollable part of their daily habits.”
After this Hill gives a long list of questions that everyone should ask themselves. It is a terribly long list, but I’m sure you’ll find the time to go through it if you are interested. It will teach you a lot about yourself.
With that, we have reached the end of the book “review” on Think And Grow Rich, By
Napoleon Hill. We have also reached the end of the first business week.
This book has left me with a lot of hope in my future. I know I can do it now. I just need to stay focused on what I think is important. I must stay persistent.
I hope you gained something out of this long review.
Have a nice weekend, and I’ll see you next week. I haven’t decided what I’ll write yet, but it’s surely going to be something interesting and worth your while, so do look forward to it!
I’ll leave you with one last quote from the book:
“You have ABSOLUTE CONTROL over but one thing, and that is your thoughts. This is the most significant and inspiring of all facts known to man! It reflects man’s Divine nature. This Divine prerogative is the sole means by which you may control your own destiny. If you fail to control your own mind, you may be sure you will control nothing else.”
